The idea of creating an ensemble arose during the pandemic. In the absence of performances in front of the public in concert halls, the musicians were looking for alternative ways to preserve musical creativity and bring it to the listener. Thus, the leading musicians of the Jerusalem Orchestra united into a chamber group and actively engaged in performing chamber music for a strictly limited number of listeners.
In the ensemble, along with honored masters, talented representatives of the new generation of musicians of the Jerusalem Symphony, which brings originality to the style of performance.
The ensemble has five permanent members, but also invited musicians take part in the ensemble's programs, which allows performing larger-scale works if necessary.
MILESTONE
In addition to these features, the ensemble has a number of other specific qualities associated with certain goals:
1) It is clear from the title that we are talking about five performers. Indeed, this is a string quintet, an ensemble more rare than a trio or quartet. At the same time, a lot of good and rarely performed music has been written for the string quintet. Thanks to the Double bass, such a composition sounds like a chamber orchestra from the stage, and at the same time has a very special repertoire and can perform in small halls designed for chamber music. (Which is very attractive to the organizers of concerts in Israel: for money for an ensemble you get the sound of an orchestra)
One of the goals of the ensemble is to introduce the audience to little-performed (in Israel) music.
2) Another specific feature of the Quintel ensemble is modularity. The programs are designed in such a way that during one concert the audience is presented with the whole range of string compositions: from an unconventional duet of violin and double bass, through various versions of trios, quartets, including double bass, and to the culmination point, a joint performance of the whole family of string instruments in a quintet. Musicians, like pieces of a puzzle, can be combined in various ways, which makes concerts more dynamic and exciting for the public.(In Israel, they like to have more fun)
Another goal that the musicians of the ensemble set for themselves is to present stringed instruments to listeners from different and unexpected points of view.
3) Being a Jerusalem musical collective, Quinte-L sets itself a complex socio-cultural goal based on the well-known saying:"All nations to Jerusalem." In the distant future, the creators of the ensemble plan to hold a music festival and/or a series of chamber music concerts in one of the respected halls of Jerusalem with the participation of the Quint-L ensemble in collaboration with young musicians from other countries. (There are relatively few international festivals in Jerusalem, especially music festivals, due to the difficult political status of the city.)
In connection with this idea, musical programs are structured as follows: each concert is dedicated to the music of a country. The works of different composers of styles and eras, united by one national character, are selected. This allows both performers and listeners to delve deeply into and evaluate the peculiarities of the musical culture of any nation. This is another creative goal of the ensemble.
Such projects arouse interest among representatives of accredited embassies in Israel, which gives the prospect of joint organization of concerts, including with the participation of invited foreign musicians, and in the future, it is possible to organize a festival.
